Wild orchids are particularly vulnerable to climate fluctuation, territory loss, and changes to the soil, “…much of their survival depends on microscopic fungi in the soil… orchids depend on the symbiotic relationships they form with these fungi to obtain nutrients. If the soil is altered the fungi can disappear, and the orchids soon follow.” - Shorelines: Life and science at the Smithsonian Research Centre, sercblog.si.edu.
